Milongas are a form of traditional folksong that were popular in the late 19th Century to 20th Century in the Río de la Plata region in Latin America . They are most typically composed with a regular meter and rhyme scheme, which Borges followed strictly in his own milongas. His poems were therefore perfectly formed to set with music, as was beautifully done by two well-known Argentine composers - Carlos Guastavino and Astor Piazzolla.

Included below is a sampling of music and audio inspired by Borges' original texts: the score for the music of "Milonga de dos hermanos" by Guastavino and audio clips from "Jacinto Chiclana" and "A don Nicanor Paredes", milongas composed by Piazzolla.
