Carnegie Today

Many ideas were floated about the reuse of Carnegie spaces and the fixed-in-place book stacks.  Tearing the building down was never a serious thought.

Carnegie Storage continues as a part of the Oberlin College Libary system today, hidden in plain sight beside Asia House, and sharing its former public spaces with College administrative offices and the Department of Geology.  Now visited only by library employees, Carnegie still holds approximately 700,000 volumes of books and other materials, mainly the older portions of the library collection.  Carnegie Library still stands in mute testimony to its long past.
