Developing Collections

After a project has been identified, it is time to develop the collection. Librarians work collaboratively with faculty to determine the extent of digital collections. This begins with a proposal that is reviewed by a carefully selected proposal review board. The proposal has specific guidelines, including:

1. a description of the nature of the project,
2. a time line for implementation,
3. sources of financial support other than the Mellon NGL grant,
4. a description of the role of the libraries/librarian(s)
5. a budget, and
6. a plan to assess the effectiveness of the course development or renovation

Librarians assist with all areas of the propsal, especially the kinds of metedata that are to be collected.
