Dear Mr. Bohn,

Congratulations on being admitted into the goodly fellowship of the D.D.'s! You well deserve it, and we rejoice with you.

Rhoda and I have been spending a couple of months here, on the invitation of this mission, but we return to Adams Natal next week. As you know, Abraham and I were sent here by the Boston Office, as a Deputation. We made some drastic recommendations which the P.C. accepted, and they are being put into effect.

You have heard of course, that the Kings were not reappointed to this Mission. You and I talked over their case when I was in Oberlin. It was a difficult situation and if you have not heard the details, I suggest that you write Secretary Riggs of Boston, asking him to send you a copy of our Report. King feels that there was no Oberlin loyalty expressed by Abraham and me, even though we recommended their return. We had, at the same time, to state the facts as we found them, and the facts were not reassuring. I have won sympathy with the Board in its troubles since I had to investigate conditions here and make recommendations!

But its not all work. I have just returned from a two week hunt with a Rhodesian friend in Portugese East Africa - where this is much big game, but where the people are dying of starvation. We succeeded in killing for them...

about 25 tons of meat and this will save [... ... ...] and be a god-send to the people. Among other kinds of "critters" we got a fine big lion, two hippos, seven elephants, and 19 buffaloes, - 40 head in all. This may not interest you, but it certainly did us, and it was a particular joy to be able to feed the hungry people. Every pound of meat was taken care of,- dried and preserved for future use.

Our thoughts are often turned Oberlin-ward, and are likely to be for some time and course. Our third daughter, - now in the Durban High School, is headed toward Oberlin and the boy is also planning on it. Its a great place, certainly.

We return to Adams next week. They want us to remain here and in many ways we would like to but evidently our work is to be at Adams, at the head of Amanzimtoti Institute for some time to come. Sorry we cannot be at both places.

With every good wish, I am,
Sincerely yours,
A.E. LeRoy
