More About the Next Generation Library
Academic and research libraries are operating in an environment of rapid, continual change. For many libraries, particularly at smaller liberal arts colleges, advancing the work of students and faculty in new media has become an ongoing challenge. In 2009 The Five Colleges of Ohio began an effort to create partnerships between faculty, librarians, and students working together to integrate digital collections into the curriculum.
The project, entitled Next Steps in the Next Generation Library: Integrating Digital Collections into the Liberal Arts Curriculum, has seen the start of over 30 digital collections, all of which were designed to support student research or be actively used in the classroom. These projects span the curricula and include digital collections used in the humanities, arts, social sciences, and sciences, as well as cross-disciplinary projects.
